In May 2023, our Columbus McKinnon Belfast team began a project with Graham’s Construction
to develop a system that would help with maintaining and repairing their on-site water tanks in Ballymena.
The aim of the design was to provide safe and easy access to the tanks if it was needed.

Since it is an outdoor site, all the products that were chosen are weatherproof
and built to withstand changing conditions.

The first part of the project began with the installation of the steel gantry.
This has been our Belfast team’s largest steel gantry project to date.

With the help of our partners at Barbour Engineering and Fabrication,
we created an eighteen-metre-long gantry with 10 support legs
and a four-tonne capacity, which was installed above the on-site pump system.

Over the next few months, we prepared the hoist and trollies to be fitted to the gantry.
A Stahl CraneSystems ST 50 chain hoist was installed and powered by two Yale VTE electric trollies.
The hoist is controlled by a Magnetek Mini G Plus inverter with custom panelling.
A large, weatherproof steel cover was built surrounding the hoist and trollies
to provide additional protection and create long-term sustainability for the hoist.

We are thankful to everyone who helped make this project happen.
